Sama-Sama

Back in 2000 when the movie Chocolat was just released, most of us girls were getting excited overJohnny Depp. If mysamasama.jpg memory works, he did not appear in the movie until the later parts.

Of course, we all remember the amazing chocolates that were handmade by Juliet Binoche which captivated the whole town.

Sama-Sama is located close to Munich’s Viktualienmarkt. A shop tucked away in a quiet corner that doesn’t shout out for attention. Most people walking along the opposite side of the street would not even notice it. That is why Sama-Sama is such a gem.

Frau Raabe has only handmade chocolate, pralines and exquisite
pralines to offer. One minute I was admiring the pretty decor, next I
was tasting chocolate rose truffles, Venus Nipples (of Chocolat’s fame)
and fiery chilli flavoured dark chocolate.

She told us that the colourful marzipans used to adorn the
chocolates are all natural fruitose, pink from raspberry andgreen from
vegetables. Nature is full of vibrant colours!

And the shop’s name. ‘Sama sama’ in Malay means ‘You’re welcome’
and in German, ‘Bitte Schoen’. She got excited when she found out that
my friend D and I were from Malaysia, and told us that more than 10
years ago she and her husband holidayed at the East Coast Islands in
Malaysia. Finding a name for the shop was not too hard, once they
recalled their lovely time in Malaysia.
