Prague : Falling in Love

P1010363

At my first glance of Prague, a thought came into my head, “Another
city hugging on a river with a castle perched on the hill and bridge
crossings”. I was reminded of something I had heard about Eastern
Europe, “See Prague and Budapest, you’ve seen it all.” After spending
two days in Prague, I beg to differ.

After a week of traveling together, both of us are starting to feel a strong divergence in our interests. He reads the Lonely Planet religiously and every main sight listed there shan’t be missed. He gets an upbeat energy from the liveliness of the crowds. On the other hand, I prefer to brush quickly through the big visits and enjoy looking for off the beaten path lanes or sit in the park to watch the day go by. I get tired easily just by being in a big crowd.

I pulled the Better Half away from more sight seeing to do more chilling out. We took a metro to another stop with no marked attraction on the map and had lunch at the first pub we saw – no tourists, just locals. Initially we intended to explore the area but were drawn to the riverside.

With time on our hands and the wonders of not planning a route, we chanced upon another picturesque view of the Castle and saw many boats dotting the river. I quickly rushed to the nearest boat rental. On the pedal boat greeted by the afternoon sun, mellow quacks from the ducks, the pedal splashing in silence and the backdrop of the most beautiful strip along the river, I fell in love with Prague.

Later in the evening on my walk back from Tesco, I paused again on the Most Legii bridge, not for a break from carrying groceries but to breath in the summer air and fall in love all over again as the sun set.
