Viva Salamanca!

El chorizo y el salchichón de salamanca se cuentan entre los mejores y más afamados del mundo. (The chorizo and salchichón from Salamanca are among the best and most famous the world.) I can attest to that. With each bite, the juicy flavours just coats your mouth with porky sweetness. There was a silent cloud of mourning as I ate the final slices.

From his recent visit to Salamanca to spend time his ailing abuelo, F brought back these prized sausages which according to him is difficult to find in the city and even if you do, you’ll have to pay exorbitant prices for them. These came directly from the farmers who own the pigs and made the sausages themselves.

In his childhood days, he would open in the morning the sandwich that
his mom packed to see what’s in store. If it was chorizo or salchichón, the day would pass in a blink. And if it was just some ham, lunch break felt like a long time away.

I too had a few days of chorizo and salchichón withdrawal symptoms when they finally disappeared.
