The weekend was looming. I stared at my Moleskin – 20, 21 and 22 April and the only items in there were, “Dinner party, lunch party, farewell party, dessert buffet, Sunday lunch.” Now that they are all over, I’m happy to report I survived!

Friday afternoon, it all began in a sudden, unexpectedly. M, who cooks and bakes everything and anything into perfection, called for lunch in two hours. She made Hakka Lui Cha. This is an irresistible offer because M makes the best Lui Cha in town. Every component of this dish is carefully and meticulously prepared. She even planted the herbs in the garden so they could be harvested fresh!

I should add that the lunch company I had where a bunch of people who organised butter cake tastings. Each and everyone brings their best known butter cake, they eat and they award the top three. Yes, we had butter cake that afternoon. I had two large slices with sugar icing of an inch thick.

Later in the night at Darby Park’s 33rd floor, my German class partner-in-crime Z threw a farewell party. Lucky girl is moving to Germany for good. She married a German guy, maybe I should follow her footsteps… After being away for five weeks, the beautiful skyline of dear Kuala Lumpur was even more captivating.

Saturday’s program, written in CAPITAL was the Amedei Chocolate Buffet at KL Hilton. G, the only person I know who had eaten in several Michelin restaurants (and still counting), invited me to the buffet as he knew I was a big Amedei consumer. The buffet spread of many chocolate cakes, mousse, tarts and even a fountain was to me just slightly above ordinary. I could have done without all that. That night we popped into our mouths non-stop chocolate truffles made with the Amedei Chuao (regular award winner at the World Chocolate Awards) on the spot by Laurent Bernard, who is the chocolatier behind Singapore’s Chocolate Factory.

Finally it’s Sunday. Actually Sunday was the real highlight for me. V, my Belgian client, finally decided to cook lunch for me and a few others. In his words, only pink lamb (lamb means not a day older than 3 months) and crepe suzette with freshly squeezed orange juice. Lunch was magnificient! Dutch gruyere croquettes, lamb with mushroom sauce and pinenut cous cous, cheese platter (!) and crepe suzette with a heavy hand of Grand Marnier. I only digested my meal at 5pm, after Belgian coffee and bitter chocolate, dessert liquer, listening to Mozart’s Magic Flute and chatting away about how we shouldn’t forget to enjoy life.
