Breakfast of Leftovers

breakfast.jpgWhen the loaf of bread had dried up and to sink your teeth into it would risk an unwarranted visit to the dentist, it is best not to soldier on with grit. To waste food is not virtuous either. Faced with an overtly crusty loaf of multigrain bread left for breakfast, toasting could be the salvation from sin.

A quick ransack of the fridge showed two more vine-ripened tomatoes,
half a packet of rocket, some slices of ham and an opened container of
parmigiano reggiano used in the penne bolognese two days ago.

The five storey breakfast, starting from the bottom, consists of heavily
buttered slices of bread, vine-ripened tomatoes, slices of cheese for a
soft, oozy bite, rocket leaves, ham and a good sprinkling of parmigiano
reggiano put under a hot grill for 5 minutes. Resist the temptation to salt and pepper and enjoy the taste of bitter, sweet and salty all in one bite.
