I picked up Swell Music’s boxy September magazine at Iglu in Edinburgh. (They have a hip online edition with video and song previews too – http://swellmusic.co.uk) At 5.30pm, the bar welcomed us at its first patrons for the day for a pint of Guinness Stout brewed in its hometown of Dublin. Playing out from the wall-hung speakers was a soothing French tune aptly singing into the mood for my final evening in the city. “Sebastien Tellier,” answered the bartender when I asked for the singer’s name. Inside Swell Music’s magazine was the album’s exact advertisement.
A week later through the brilliant technology of file transfers, Sebastien Tellier is singing out from my room speakers. Nope, I didn’t download it illegally (I tried though, but it’s not mainstream enough). The song playing last Wednesday evening was La Dolce Vita – the good life. Which tune could be more suitable than this to commemorate the closure of a wonderful month traveling.
