Feeling Empty?

Seven swift months had passed since I last had a music lesson. There is no one else to blame for this except myself but I am trying not to feel upset about it. One visit to the ayurveda clinic last year, 2 weeks of oily daily treatment and one final day of fasting had a truly lasting effect. According to ayurvedic principles, each of us can be generally categorized into three constitution. Usually we are a combination of 2 constitution with one being more dominant.

Perhaps those 2 weeks was a lesson learnt for me to take care and respect my body, not merely physically but also mentally. Yes, only after taking those yucky herbs and potions I took seriously a very simple fact: when you set your expectations too high, you’ll more likely fall harder. My ayurveda doctor had properly diagnosed this ‘condition’ as a trait of my domination constitution. So he said, “Just take it easy, relax and don’t think too much” as prescription.

Ok, apologise for the deviation – back to the music….

On the way to the ATM in KLCC (in preparation for spending), me and the Other Half were surprised to see an air of festivities at the lobby of the Petronas Philharmonic music hall. Next thing we knew, we were filling up forms for free concert tickets. For one hour, we were treated to a palate of Shostakovich, Ravel, Beethoven, Verdi and Strauss as part of the orchestra’s open day, signifying the start of a new concert season. Such a treat considering the need for some classical music was on our minds!

The classical music playlist has now become an essential on ITunes. I turn to Damien Rice at times of melancholy and sing along Keane or Snow Patrol when stuck in traffic. We all feel a little flattened out sometimes, not quite upset but not quite upbeat as well. Where can we turn to for some spirit lifting? My first response to a downbeat day is to listen to Bach’s solo cello suites. It reminds me that no matter how bad the things are, there’s still hope and life can still be beautiful like the music played.

So I won’t worry about missing music lessons, just let the music play on..
