Munich : Retracing

Anyone who’s been to Munich will know Marienplatz, the busiest square. It is the best way to start the day. With my tummy happily filled with a butter pretzel, of course ordered in complete proper German, in the drizzly morning I walked into right into the heart of the city. At Café Aran, I got a few winks from the German barista. Perhaps to order in broken German and English made me more alluring. This wasn’t a bad way to start the first day in Munich though that was not the case after many subsequent attempts.

The city was still and quiet before lunch and the crowds began trickling in at 11am to peer up to watch the dancing figurines at the Glockenspiel. Europe has been blessed with a warm winter this year and that makes exploring Viktualienmarkt extremely pleasant. A return to Germany would not be complete without Lebekäse, an inch of the tastiest meatloaf sandwiched between a plain bread loaf with sweet mustard.

Though not the best activity to do after a 20 hour journey, I finished the evening with two hours of Pilates and returned back to D & T’s for a much needed nap. Thanks to the jetlag, I am physically present in Munich but my mind is still journeying still midway

We wrapped up the night in at a nearby restaurant with an Australian chef heading the kitchen. A glass of wine and the loveliest Osso Bucco I have had so far was just the right thing for me before I hit the bed again.
