Munich : Back in Fashion!

I love Munich! Probably because my wonderful host, D, always makes me feel right at home whenever I’m in town. Second time back into Munich and I have discovered more surprises.

It was a long bus trip from Linz to Munich. On hindsight, I would have paid more to journey on a fast train. As always, an unexpected surprise turns up. The bus terminal is next to the Allianz stadium, Munich’s World Cup centre just a few months ago.

How lucky we were! Immediately after arriving at D and her partner T’s apartment, we were served a full spread breakfast of omelette with smoked salmon, rocket and tomatoes, a selection of cheese, fresh bread and well-brewed coffee, all served at 3pm. Time flew by quickly while we were catching up, we only finished breakfast at 5pm later.

Back at Marienplatz, the city’s most bustling square, both of us were delighted to see familiar brands like Puma, Adidas, Zara, Miss Sixty and Camper. Everything we have at home except choices, choices and more choices. Since we started traveling, we avoided shopping because we saved it all for Munich. And so we shopped happily. Except we did not buy the traditional outfits of dirndl and lederhosen.

From pre-dinner organic beer (one of whose label bore a handsome pig posing with pearls), the four of us made our way to Pizzeria L’Angolo. L’Angolo serves very popular pizzas, about 25 varieties and it is normal for each person to order their own pizza, a full 10-inch all for one person. We managed only half of ours. It has now become a tradition that every of D’s guest in Munich will be treated to L’Angolo.

We finished almost midnight and walked home back into bed to end our first night in one of our all time favourite cities.
