Growing Up with Jaipur Curry House

About fourteen (fourteen!!) years ago back in secondary school, Jaipur Curry House in Taman Tun Dr Ismail was a place where you can catch a glimpse of fellow schoolmates having their breakfast on weekdays and weekends, often after their basketball, badminton or cycling activities.

Together with a couple of friends, this was our regular breakfast, tea and hang out spot. Thosai, roti pisang and teh tarik were the usual orders at an era where grease, overconsumption of sugar and mid-afternoon snack did not cost more than a lecture at dinnertime later by the parents for not finishing the food. Those days when consumption of food resulted in an equivalent expense of energy. There were no leftovers from consumption that would lie around the physical body.

Today, I still return to Jaipur for my weekly vegetarian lunch fix since I work a stone’s throw away.

Deep fried bittergourd slices and another two varieties of vegetables
soaked in dhal and fish curry with rice. On a sinful day, I’d add some
dry mutton. If there was a top ten list of my all-time favourite food, this box of delicious goodness for RM3.50 would sit permanently up on the top five!
