Red Bean Slices & Sixteen Ladies

Four walls perimeter my 600 sq/ft Pilates studio. Within this small space, we hosted an event, “An Introduction to Pilates” for the Association of British Women in Malaysia last Thursday. From the initial number of ten participants, six more streamed through the door as I began to teach!

Never before we’ve had to occupy every inch of the studio like that day. We all had a great time. Each and every one of the sixteen ladies were all very excited to rediscover their abdominal muscles and get acquainted with their bodies again through the mat exercises that we taught. Despite not being able to perform some exercises properly, they just rolled their eyes in disbelief and casted off their lack of strength with a good laugh at themselves. To see the studio filled with a buzz of activity, laughter and enthusiasm for us was truly satisfying.

After exercising, a light bite becomes a treat rather a guilt. We
certainly didn’t want to be remembered as lousy hostesses and wanted
the ladies to walk out the studio feeling rejuvenated and happy. I
made a tray of hazelnut red bean slice adapted from Rose Carrarini’s
wonderful book so they would leave with a sweet memory of their morning.

On days like these, I feel buoyed and blessed. I couldn’t ask for a better job than this!
